DA is a good place to "be". It has a couple of failings however, one of which is the need to have Malwarebytes running continuously when browsing DA. I have previously blogged here that DA users must take care as DA provides unvetted ads that can compromise the security of your system. Unfortunatel,y I was caught out yesterday myself as I had disabled malwarebytes after a major version upgrade. A few minutes of using DeviantArt and I was presented with one of those unvetted adverts and I was infected by a PUP - short for Potentially Unwanted Program or in fact malware as I was not asked as to whether I wanted to install or not - it just occurred. It was the opencandy.PUP that infected my browser, How do I know it was DeviantArt that caused it? Well the infection was preceded by a freeze opening a new page when browsing DeviantArt then Firefox crashed and required a restart. From then on all my searches were redirected and adverts popped up... Not good DA. You need to find a way to stop the delivery of dodgy ads to your unhappy Deviants.

A run through by malwarebytes quickly cleaned it up but this just goes to show how your defences need to be on guard all the time.

A second thing to dislike about DeviantArt is the DA app for metro - the Win8 desktop app. It is just a little bit crAp. You cannot log in (well I couldn't find the way in) and you can only view at the top level, no drill down to groups or users, rather useless in fact. I uninstalled it immediately. Deviantart needs to have a common app across all platforms, it needs to work the same on each.
