Another view of the planned PIM by yereverluvinuncleber Another view of the planned PIM by yereverluvinuncleber
This was another view of the planned PIM showing the icons in 'large' and 'small' mode. It was planned to allow the icons to be visible in expanded or standard (small) mode distributed along the top in a single line. The space behind the icons would be made transparent or opaque as required and the icons would appear to float upon the desktop.

The application buttons were:

clock - appointments - the clock would be a live clock telling the time - we have the code for the clock but not for the appointment app.

dial - auto dial contact - not sure this would be needed, left over from organiser
globe - web bookmark - a bookmark interface to the web
typewriter - note taker - we have the code for this
phone - call log
stamp - contacts
tabulator - planner  - no idea how to do this currently
glass clipboard - to do list
needs a calendar icon - which I will make for the anniversaries application

The above would need a database.

The function buttons were:

Disc with glass - File open
Letter - email
Scissors - cut
Wood clipboard - paste
Disc with pen - File save
Printer - print
Magnifer - search

It was designed as retaining a traditional interface using icons rather than cues in the PIM layout itself, this was due to the intended migration from Lotus Organiser which had a similar layout with easily recognisable icons across the top.

I have a widget made from the above graphic on my desktop now, it doesn't do anything yet but it shows the concept.

I'd love to come up with some sort of mature response to this design and the idea of it possibly being made functional (especially the thought of the agenda like functionality! whoot!) -but all I can say is: NOMNOMNOMNOMNOM ME WANTS IT! ME WANTS IT! :squee:  lol!

I know it must take a LOT of time and effort to do the awesome work you do -and this in particular would certainly be complex- but I'm a patient woman... so know I'll be keeping an eye out just in case you ever bring this, or anything else like, it to fruition in the future. ;)

Looks very beautiful. Must've taken long to do this. I surely wouldn't have the patience!

Thankyou. Patience is a requirement and it is required for the design and the coding.

For the Database MySql is a must.

Can you call external applications from a widget?

If so I think I could help with some of the apps, not in JScript of course but still...

Oh yes, easy to call external apps, scripts &c. as the thing progresses, if the thing progresses...I may ask you.

I certainly like the look of it!  Mind you, it does sound like a devil of a lot of work.  Too bad your collaborator bailed. :(

He's still around, he is simply not keen. Everyone needs to be enthused.
